AUGUST SUMMER EVENT GUIDE We are in the midst of the "dog days' of Summer"! The skies are blue, the rain has taken a hiatus and it is HOT, HOT HOT! If you are anything like me, you start to get a little antsy this time of year knowing that summer is wrapping up. You only have a few more weeks to get out there and enjoy the summer weather. To get my own excitement and anxiety under control, I started making a list of all the events that I want to attend during the month of August. Once it was complete, I thought that this might be something that others would want to see, so I decided to share it! Hooray!! I encourage you to beat the heat and get out and explore your town, city or state! Don't forget to stay hydrated, apply sunscreen and TAKE PICTURES!
NW NATURAL STREET OF DREAMS August 1st - 26th
The 2018 NW Natural Street of Dreams will feature six homes in the largest master planned community in Oregon - The Vendage at The Reserve Golf Club in South Hillsboro.
SUMMER CONCERTS AT THE ZOO August 2nd - September 12th www.zooconcerts.com
This year, Oregon’s “wildest” outdoor concert series brings you world-class artists for a night of music and nature from June to September. It wouldn’t be summer in Oregon without an evening of great music at the zoo!
PORTLAND ADULT SOAPBOX DERBY
August 18th
Once a year a brave group of racers gather on the steep slopes of Mt. Tabor to put their courage to the test. Witness these teams pull their soapbox creations to the top, strap themselves in and careen down the hillsides in a flurry of sweat and beer!
OREGON STATE FAIR
August 24th - September 4th
The Oregon State Fair celebrates over 150 years! Here you will have a plethora of exhibitions & displays, spirited competition, carnival rides, animals, entertainment, concerts, and of course, food and drink!
URBAN YOGA HIKES
August 8th - 30th (various dates)
A truly transforming experience from beginning-to-end in a lush urban forest. There will be a guided hike to the top of the 198 acred park of Mt Tabor, then we will make our way to a magical circle of evergreens for an all levels, 30-45 minute yoga practice.
FERNHILL PARK SPLASH PAD - OPENING
August 25th
All are welcome to join Portland Commissioner Amanda Fritz, Portland Parks & Recreation, and the Concordia neighborhood community for the grand opening celebration. The event is free and open to all. The event includes free cupcakes, fun and games for all ages, and face painting for the kids
ANNUAL ELEPHANT GARLIC FESTIVAL
August 10th - 12th
21st Annual North Plains Elephant Garlic Festival. Includes: Live music, food vendors, garlic, handcrafted artist area, children’s area (Check out Puzzlemania on Saturday and Sunday), beer/wine garden, Sunday car show, Saturday parade, 3 day book sale, 1/2 marathon, 10k & 5k run on Saturday morning. Free entry and family friendly.
BEAVERTON NIGHT MARKET
August 11th
The BNM exists to create a vibrant, intercultural, family-friendly space that is reminiscent of night markets internationally. The Market offers a culturally-relevant evening activity and gathering space with ethnic food and crafts for families of all backgrounds. Enjoy concerts, dance performances & live music.
HAWTHORNE STREET FAIR
August 26th
Come visit Portland’s original “shop local” district and explore over a hundred businesses dedicated to community involvement, making the area a desirable place to live, work, and shop. This is a FREE event with live music, kids activities, beer garden and local vendors.
BIG BOUNCE AMERICA
August 25th - September 3rd
This is an action packed family-friendly day out featuring THE WORLD'S BIGGEST BOUNCE HOUSE! Inside you'll find giant slides, ball pits, basketball hoops, obstacle runs, inflatable animals among massive inflatable palm trees with inflatable trucks, boats and climbing frames all contained within the walls of our candy-colored castle.
FESTA ITALIANA
August 23rd - 25th
The annual celebration of culture, music, food, beer garden and community brought to you FREE by Portland's Italian community. Opera by PSU Opera Department on Thursday. Children will enjoy the Princess Theater and marionette shows. There will also be a cannoli eating contest and grape stomp.
MOM MADE MARKET - PDX
August 18th & 19th
The Mom Made Market returns for our 3rd annual Portland Market! Come shop local, hand-made items from Moms! Come join us from 10am-4pm for shopping, food and family fun at Alpenrose Dairy. Admission and parking is FREE!
